NOTICE FOR THE INTERIM APPOINTMENT OF A MAYOR
QUALIFIED PERSONS MAY APPLY FOR APPOINTMENT
QUALIFIED PERSONS MAY APPLY FOR APPOINTMENT
PROVO,
Utah – November 20, 2017 – Pursuant
to the procedures outlined in Utah State Code §20A-1-510 and Provo City Code
§2.10.080, the Provo City Municipal
Council intends to appoint a Mayor to complete the remainder of the term
vacated by now-Congressman John Curtis, which term ends at noon on January 1,
2018. The appointment of the interim
mayor will occur at the regular Council meeting on December 5, 2017 at 5:30 PM.
Qualified persons may apply in person by
filing a Declaration of Candidacy with Janene Weiss, City Recorder, at the
Provo City Recorder’s Office located at 351 W. Center Street, Provo, Utah until
12:00 PM (noon) on Thursday, November 30, 2017.
Minimum
qualifications are that a person applying for the position:

Be a registered voter of Provo City
·
Be a legal resident of Provo City for twelve (12)
consecutive months prior to appointment.
·
Be at least 18 years of age.
·
Have no other compensated employment with Provo
City.
Any mentally incompetent person, any person convicted of a felony, or
any person convicted of treason or a crime against the elective franchise may
not hold office in this state until the right to vote or hold elective office
is restored as provided by statute (see UCA 20A-2-101.3 or 20A-2-101.5).
The Municipal Council will, in open meeting, interview each
individual whose name is submitted for consideration, and who meets the
qualifications for office, regarding the individual's qualifications and then
will vote to appoint, on an interim basis, a mayor from among the qualified
candidates interviewed.
