Provo Power's current energy campus was built in 1939 to serve a population of 18,000, with additions such as the office and power substation added over the years. After 75 years Provo's population has grown to 120,000 and changes need to be made to address the growing population as well as the condition of the facilities.
A presentation was made at the March 3, 2015, Work Session to update the Council on the project, with additional discussion at the March 17 Work Session. The new complex will be built on the existing location and will be funded through bond sales. At the March 17 Council Meeting, the Council approved a resolution authorizing the issuance and sale of up to $20 million of energy system revenue bonds. A public hearing will be held when the bonds are ready to be issued.
